SALERS TOPS MELBOURNE RNA
Out of the 226 bulls from 30 different breeds exhibited and scanned at the 2007 annual Melbourne RNA Show, 3 year old Queensland bull Ingledew Ripper top scored Eye Muscle Area with 149cm, together with the very favorable fat cover figures of 19cm rump, 14cm rib.
Ingledew Ripper was crowned both Senior and Grand Champion Salers bull after having been trucked 1,700kms from Oakey, Queensland to Melbourne 2 days prior to judging.
International judge Fred Schuetze, a Simmental breeder from Buyyard Ranch, Texas USA, marveled at the sheer volume of red meat displayed by the lengthy 1,200kg Ripper and his ability to neatly place his back feet in the marks just vacated by his front hooves as he travelled effortlessly around the ring.
He was a crowd favorite in the Melbourne show shed due to his size and docility with many adults and children having their photo taken with him.

Ingledew Ripper was bred and prepared in Toowoomba by Michael & Helena Manley, where he was mating with cows right up until his departure for the Melbourne RNA.
Ripper was also the Senior Euro Bull Champion in the "Battle of the Bulls" at the June 2007 Farmfest as judged by Trevor Wozencroft, who remarked that when he visited France four years ago inspecting the home country of the Salers breed, he didn't see any Salers Bulls there to rival the quality of Ingledew Ripper.
Leon Martin of Falkirk Index Australia who scanned Ripper at the 2007 Farmfest, recorded him at 5,093 on the Falkirk Index, almost 2,000 points better than the top grade benchmark for the Falkirk Index Standards Super Elite category, which verified judge Trevor Wozencroft's expressed opinion re the bull's quality.
Ripper is now back enjoying his work in a paddock of 80 females in Oakey, Qld, far from the hectic sounds of the show rings.

The Balanced Breed
Salers - are recognised as one of the oldest pure breeds in the world, originating from central France in the Cantal region - an area noted for its harsh climate, rough topography and poor soils.
Salers - have been bred for centuries in complete isolation; far removed from any outside genetic influence until very recent times. This means that they have a high degree of pre-potency and predictability when used in a crossbreeding program, hybrid vigour with consistent results.
Salers - were only finally allowed out of France in the early to mid 1970's with the exportation of a few stock to a French experimental Farm in Canada, and from there their worldwide demand escalated.
Salers - were introduced to Australia in 1985 and cattlemen have been quick to discover the versatility and adaptability of this popular European breed now found in all regions of this country.
Salers - are unlike all other European breeds, since they were bred as a "Free Range" grazing animal rather than under closely confined farming conditions.
Salers are also regarded as a MATERNAL BREED.
Salers - "THE BALANCED BREED" so named because they offer the most profitable balance and combination of all important economic traits to modern cattlemen.
